I’ve never been impressed with Valentine’s Day. I’m ashamed to admit that I’m one of those spouses who scrambles around a couple days before, panicked because she forgot about it entirely.

In WIP news, I continue to fudge around with my gothic sapphic siren romance. It’s slow going at the moment. Watching Nosferatu in December gave me some initial inspiration… i.e. mermaids more deadly than gorgeous… but some personal circumstances threw up a barrier or two. I know we all receive our inspiration from somewhere – nothing is 100% “original” in that sense – but when my creative brain is besieged by all the cliches it can possibly conjure, my writing flow screeches to a halt. My stories need to be original enough to maintain my focus, or else I end up wasting time by editing the same six pages for hours.
Luckily I have two wonderful BFFs who also happen to be writers and help me fight off the brain fog. Love you guys!
“The Siren” by Nightwish also helps set the tone I’m going for. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without music. Both in general, and especially with my writing.
The ebook ARC for Schattengeist is complete, so I’m currently planning for an August ARC campaign (BookFunnel). Depending on how the final editing goes, it may release sooner. What bliss to be in full control of my own schedule! Barring mishaps, of course.
In artistic news, my new Manteufel Books logo is officially underway. I don’t want to spoil anything, so all I can say at the moment is that it will be deliciously Gothic with a touch of fantasy.
